Read First: This method is relatively drastic, and volition injure device performance some. You should merely utilize this equally a final resort, if the more basic methods of fixing a soft brick didn't work (e.one thousand, factory reset, flash stock firmware, etc.)

*Update 7/30: On my 6P, I establish that the original kernel with this mod was using pretty much i.five cores, instead of all four. People with the 5X were too reporting this, so I modified the images to utilise all 4 cores improve. It helps performance a lot (able to beat stock 6P in some Antutu marks at present, and play intensive games), attempt it out if you oasis't even so!

*Petition:
I made a petition for Google to officially release and sign modified boot.imgs, so that people with locked bootloaders tin fix their devices too. Cheque information technology out here. (I apologize for dumbing it downwardly and then much, I wanted to brand sure everyone could sympathise it)

*Changelog:

*What this fix does, and how to apply it:

*If your phone is bootloader locked/OEM locked:

*Downloads:

*Source Code:

*Tested custom ROMS/kernels

I uploaded a custom TWRP image and EX kernel zilch. Endeavor flashing the modified TWRP, so flashing the modified EX kernel, and meet if that works.

after trying again I was able to get it to write successfully however the nexus 5x is still bootlooping, this is an original hardware revision nexus 5x if that helps

I updated the OP with a modified EX kernel, and some tweaks to make your device faster, check information technology out to see if it helps your device.

My first time took around 10 minutes to boot I think, if it takes over twenty minutes, reboot your device and reflash, and if that fails, update your firmware to the latest version.

Are you upgrading from stock firmware or a custom rom? This boot.img is for the latest 7.one.2 build. Unless you take files that you tin't afford to delete, I would recommend reflashing your stock firmware with the latest version.

This works, thank you. First time I've been able to boot my 5X in months.

Crawly! I but want to say how much I dear your kernel, it makes this set up much more than viable.

update: I was able to install twrp and boot into that, but its request for a countersign.... @XCnathan32 is there a specific password you ready or should "default_password" work?

update: I was able to install twrp and kick into that, simply its asking for a countersign.... @XCnathan32 is there a specific countersign you set or should "default_password" piece of work?

default_password didn't work for me, I just clicked cancel when information technology asked for the encryption, and so I factory reset the device through TWRP. If y'all have important files you can't delete, you can try just flashing EX Kernel, equally I don't think EX needs to admission the /data partition.

Update 2 : Seems I was able to just abolish out of the password prompt. Flashed Elemental X and it looks similar its booting!
Awesome job my friend, you fixed the (temporarily) unfixable. I'll play effectually with this for a few days and report dorsum.

Thanks!
So I constitute a bootloop set up for the Nexus 6p hither, and some users reported having the aforementioned trouble with their Nexus 5X.

I exercise not own a Nexus 5X, but I made a modified boot.img the aforementioned way I fabricated the modified 6P image. It simply disables the big cores, as that's what was preventing the 6P from booting.
Please report if this works/does non work for you, that way I can get a good sample size to determine how effective this is.

Disclaimer: I have non tested this, I uploaded this image so testers could wink it and report if information technology works or non. If your device breaks/spontaneously combusts afterward flashing this, you accepted that risk.
Edit: A few people have reported this working, so it should be safe.

N2G47Z_4Cores.img, this image is based on the latest vii.1.ii firmware for the Nexus 5X, modified by me to only use 4 cores. four reported working, 2 reported non working.
To flash it: you must take an unlocked bootloader and fastboot on your PC. Kick your device into bootloader, and so run the command fastboot flash boot N2G47Z_4Cores.img Hopefully, your device volition now kick upwards.

TWRP3_1_1_5X.img, modified to apply only 4 cores, will go working TWRP on your device. Not tested yet
To wink, navigate to the folder where it is downloaded, make certain you have fastboot installed, and and so run this control: fastboot flash recovery TWRP3_1_1_5X.img.

EX4_10_5X.zip, Elemental 10 kernel V4.ten for android seven.1.2, modified to use only 4 cores, I highly recommend you wink this, as EX kernel is faster, and you tin overclock to the footling cluster to make up for some speed. Non tested yet.
To flash, re-create the zero to your device, then flash information technology in the modified TWRP, just go through the Odour installer as usual. Changing the BIG cpu frequency in the installer will not alter annihilation, equally the cores are disabled.

Boosted notes:
Root worked on my 6p by flashing the regular SuperSu zip just as normal. None tested for 5X yet

To amend performance slightly:
Disable animations in programmer options, it helps a lot.
Overclock fiddling cores with EX kernel, I have mine ready to 1632 MHz and everything is working fine and so far.
Set CPU governor to performance (or some ambitious governor), with the BIG cores disabled, the battery is already much ameliorate, so using a better performance governor shouldn't be a trouble for battery life.
Doing a fresh flash of the firmware/factory reset can assistance a lot too.
Fast custom roms tin also help.

Roms that me/other users have plant working with this fix:
Pure Nexus worked well for me on the 6p, insane battery life and very little lag. If you are going to flash a rom, be certain to flash the modified EX kernel over it.
If you lot detect a rom that works with this fix, tell me, and I'll put it here.

Credits:
@rchtk, his post hither gave me the idea for how to modify the images.
@flar2, He built the Elemental 10 kernel for this device, I only made a small-scale modification to his kernel to utilise iv cores. In no way am I trying to steal and/or ignominy his work.
The TWRP development team, they built the TWRP recovery for this device, I but made a small modification to their recovery to apply 4 cores. In no way am I trying to steal and/or discredit their work.

Feel free to enquire me for assistance, If you accept a favorite ROM/Kernel that y'all desire to use, tell me and i'll modify it to use 4 cores.

Please click cheers if I helped you, it means a lot to me :)

Hey homo I tried this method, and I can confirm that this works! Although it is wearisome, it's better than nil I truly do appreciate your efforts. SCREW LG
